Fall without a doubt is my favourite time of year when it comes to painting motifs. The colours are gorgeous and the light dramatic.
The three pieces, Autumn Rays, The Other Pasture and Hidden Beauty, are from the Orleans/Cumberland area. These pieces are my foray into watercolour and acrylic ink. I like the way acrylic works, and acrylic inks are somewhat more of the same, but in watercolour.
These are not the traditional watercolour technique but appealing to my love of contrast and colour. They are not framed behind glass but instead are mounted on cradled board, which I feel gives them a more modern look and lets the colours sing, without the distraction of glare from the glass.
Several measures have been taken to protect the piece. The cradled panel support has been sealed with Gamblin PVA Size to prevent any bleaching from the wood into the paper. The artwork has been sprayed with Schmincke Universal Spray Fixative to seal in the pigment and paper. It is then adhered to the panel using Golden Heavy Gel Matt Medium and finally a layer of Dorland’s cold wax medium is applied as a protective top coat.
