Sun Painted Yellow

Watercolour/Acrylic Ink, 14×11, 140 lb Watercolour Paper on gallery (1.5″) cradled board – $180

Turned a corner and had to reach for my camera to capture this beautiful late fall colour. Back in the studio, I tried to recreate the vibrance of the sun lighting the leaves and path. There’s a school of thought that different colours evoke different emotions and the debate on whether this is due to association with personal life events or something inherent in the spectrum of light striking the retina is unresolved. Glad I don’t need to decide. For me, the stunning colour and contrast are a joy, especially in the fall.

Yellow was a favourite of J.M.W Turner, precursor to the Impressionists and for Vincent van Gogh, sunflower painter and glorious post-impressionist. If it’s good enough for them, it works for me.

Afternoon Walk In The Fall

Acrylic on 28×22 gallery wrap canvas – $680

We are so fortunate to live at a latitude that enjoys four seasons. Each has it special feel and the change is always invigorating. Fall is probably the most colourful time and the mild sunny days after the hot summer and bugs is a joy. It’s a time for relaxing and meandering down a favourite path to appreciate the sights and smells.
