Spring Run Off Finished, Gatineau

Acrylic, 28×22 on gallery wrap – $680

The spring excitement is here. Warm days are punctuated by disappointingly chilly ones. But the waves of warm are coming more often and lasting longer. Nature is busy regardless. Strenuous nesting and birthing are racing ahead. For the trees, the race is to grab the light ahead of the neighbours. The new foliage is a wonderful light colour. The sun still gets through, giving the woods a much lighter, airier feel than what it will be in the full heat of summer. Soon the spring thaw will be over and the roaring, impromptu falls in Gatineau Park will revert to quiet streams or will dry up completely for another year.

Daffodils

Acrylic, 12×16 on gallery wrap – $215

Throughout history, ancient to modern, daffodils have been associated with many things.

The connection I prefer is simply as a golden sign of spring.

In the height of British romanticism, William Wordsworth penned a poem celebrating these blooms and how they lifted his spirits, then and since. I particularly love the images he paints with his words – “… all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; … fluttering and dancing in the breeze’.

If you would like to read the full poem, it is well worth it, here’s a link : https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45521/i-wandered-lonely-as-a-cloud

These two, I saw in a sheltered spot near Rockliff Park.
