Zinnia Fascination

The early 18th century was an age when global plant hunting and the study of botany was booming. In 1753, Johann Gottfried Zinn became director of the Botanic garden of the University of Gottingen. He is attributed to have successfully germinated seeds from Mexico sent to him by the German envoy at the time. The genus was named Zinnia in his honour.

Today this has grown into hundreds of cultivars bringing a riotous display to our gardens.

For the painting inclined, its a great a fun excuse to splash around vivid colour.

I must admit, I’ve already painted this subject in gouache but couldn’t resist re-interpreting it again in acrylic.

One voice in 7 billion. Insignificant. What if we all spoke at once? Ear-splitting!! What if we all stopped to listen? Maybe, compassion.
